There are two types of double chins: one caused by unwanted weight and those caused by poor skin tone.  People who want to lose weight quite often complain of a double chin.

A double chin is simply a layer of fat just below the jaw line. There’s really nothing hard about removing a double chin except a holistic program change in lifestyle and a few minutes a day exercising the jaw muscles.

As the diet improves and exercise melts away pounds of unwanted weight, the facial profile should gradually change to fit the jaw line and cheek bones.

Here is a simple exercise that can be used to help the process and firm the skin and muscles around the jaw line.

  • Open the mouth as wide as possible.
  • Cover your bottom teeth with your bottom lip so that the lip curves inward.
  • Move the jaw upward and forward in one one motion so as to look like a shovel digging into the earth.
  • Reopen the jaw and begin the process again.
  • Continue this exercise for a total of ten times.
  • Try to complete this exercise two to three times a day.

If the issue in question is a matter of skin tone there are simple steps to reduce that limp and flabby skin look. Limp skin is caused by a lack of elasticity, the same problem that also causes wrinkles and fine lines.

There are many over the counter skin care products that can make a difference in your skin’s elasticity by firming the skin. Some of these products are complicated mixtures of ingredients that include collagen and a wide variety of vitamins, especially vitamin C.

If you are unsure of which products to use, just visit the skin care counter at your local department store and they will be able to assist you. You can also search on the internet for skin firming products and you will find several to choose from.

Other products are simpler, such as ones that you can prepare in your own home such as using plain yogurt or mashing an avocado to a make an avocado mask.

Besides skin care products, there are methods of prevention such as what foods you choose to eat, how much time is spent in the sun and what type of makeup you use on your skin. You should also be aware that constant tugging or pulling on the skin can stretch it, so try to keep your hands away from your face and chin.

Right now there is a bit of controversy as to how much water we should be drinking each day and whether or not it helps to hydrate the skin.

Although the argument of whether or not water helps still exists; leaning towards the side that believes that we should be drinking on average 8 glasses of water each day can’t hurt. If you live in a dry climate or are active in sports or regular physical fitness, you should be drinking a bit more. Hydration tends to plump up the skin and gives it a firmer look.

Between keeping your weight under control, exercising your jaw muscles and using firming skin care products you should be able to get a sleeker and firmer looking chin and neck line.
